Let's see

Let's see..it's January and as is a frequent occurrence in January it's seriously nippy. My most favorite thing to do when it's cold is to curl up in a blanket, with a cup of tea and a good book. This morning I have a cup of Pomegranate w/ green tea concoction and a book by Dr. Lamar Jensen on Renaissance Europe. Three chapters of homework I'll enjoy. It's all over EU but naturally centers around Italy and Germany. England's in there on the edge of civilization. I love English History.

I have a full load of classes this semester and am working non-stop as well. Still, I try to encounter something along the spiritus as I go along. I finished reading a Compendium to the Catholic catechism. I've been filtering through since fall. Nothing revelatory there. I love the symbolism of the Catholic faith. Saint Leo is purported to have said "O Christian, recognize your dignity". I like that. Of course, England is all wrapped up in the history of Christianity.

I also finished "New Seeds of Contemplation" by Thomas Merton. Sometimes he is so angry and cynical-yes even condescending. He makes me think long and hard. Other times he writes words that are so lyrical and soft it takes your breath away. I like the dualism of Merton. That's what being human is all about. And, as usual, Merton gets the English nod because of his time spent there. I have been thinking about his death the past few days. He was electrocuted by a fan in Bangkok. Accidental deaths have a touch of the supernatural about them.
